Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with queer couples?

Yes. Aspen Therapy provides LGBTQ+ affirming couples therapy in San Diego and throughout California via telehealth. Affirming care isn't an add-on for us — it's the baseline for how we work with every couple, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

Do you offer in-person services?

Yes. Aspen Therapy currently provides in-person services on Mondays and Wednesdays by Savannah Henderson, LPCC, with plans to expand our in person availability and clinicians soon. Aspen Therapy offers telehealth appointments to clients anywhere in California

Are you a LGBTQ+ affirming practice?

Aspen Therapy is an LGBTQ+ affirming therapy practice based in San Diego, CA, offering both in-person and virtual sessions available statewide across California.

Because our clinicians are licensed in California, we offer LGBTQ+ affirming virtual therapy to clients anywhere in the state, not just in San Diego. We do offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy in-person in San Diego.

When do you offer therapy sessions?

Availability varies by clinician. Some Aspen Therapy clinicians see clients on weekdays only, while others offer evening and weekend appointments as well. When you reach out, we'll help match you with a clinician whose schedule fits yours.

Do you use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) or the Gottman Method?

Yes. Our couples work draws on both EFT and the Gottman Method, along with a broader relational and attachment-based framework.

Do you have therapists with evening or weekend availability?

Yes. While some of our clinicians see clients on weekdays only, others offer evening and weekend appointment times for clients who need more flexible scheduling.

What is a relationship intensive, and do you offer one?

Do you offer premarital counseling?

Yes, premarital and pre-cohabitation counseling is one of the life-transition areas we support, either through ongoing sessions or our Growing Roots intensive format.

Do you offer discernment therapy for couples?

Discernment therapy is a short-term, structured process designed to help couples on the brink of divorce gain clarity and confidence about whether to try and save their relationship or move forward with separation.

We currently do not have any therapists that specialize in discernment therapy. However, many of our couples therapists are open to discussing these topics as part of your work.

Do you accept insurance?

Aspen Therapy offers Growing Roots, a relationship intensive for couples who are doing well and want to strengthen their connection ahead of a life change, rather than couples in acute crisis.

Aspen Therapy also offers Renewed Growth, a relationship intensive for couples who want a “tune-up” and to reconnect in their relationship.

A therapy intensive is a longer session, sometimes a half day or full day, that has a specific structure and topics. Aspen Therapy is happy to personalize intensives for you and your partner while also integrating evidence based tools from Emotion Focused Therapy and Gottman Therapy.
