Meet The Team…
Sydney Williams, AMFT
I work with couples who care about each other but keep getting pulled into the same painful patterns. Maybe every disagreement turns into the same fight. One of you pushes for answers while the other shuts down. You may feel misunderstood, disconnected, resentful, or unsure how to get back to feeling like a team.
In therapy, I help you slow those moments down and understand what is actually happening underneath them. Often, anger is covering hurt. Defensiveness is protecting against shame or feeling like a failure. Pulling away can be an attempt to avoid making things worse. Once we understand the pattern, we can work on changing it—so you are not just having better conversations in my office, but relating differently at home.
My style is warm, direct, and involved. I am not the kind of therapist who will simply sit back while you repeat the same argument. I will help both of you feel heard, point out patterns as they happen, ask questions that get beneath the surface, and help you practice new ways of responding to each other. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment-based therapy, CBT, and other relationship-focused approaches, but you do not need to know any of those terms to work with me. My focus is helping you understand each other better, communicate more honestly, rebuild connection, and create changes that actually last.
I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and have experience working with adults and couples dealing with relationship distress, anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic stress, and major life changes. My work has taught me that the way we react in relationships usually makes sense once we understand what is underneath it—and that couples can make meaningful changes when they stop seeing each other as the problem and start understanding the pattern between them.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy being outdoors, exploring new places, good coffee, animals, and spending time with the people I care about. I value curiosity, humor, and creating a life that feels meaningful and intentional.
